Christmas Decorations - A Brief History
Christmas is a traditional annual celebration commemorating the birth of Christ, typically celebrated during the last week of December as an economic and social celebration among millions of Christians worldwide. The word "Christmas" was first used during the twelfth century, when the Roman Catholic Church began using it to refer to the season of the year. The celebration of Christmas, as well as other celebrations such as New Year, are usually marked with a great deal of pomp and pageantry, particularly during Christmas Eve.
Although Christmas celebrations have been popularized by Christmas movies and songs over the years, many people still hold a rather dim view of this traditional holiday, especially Christians. The history of Christmas itself, however, is a rich one.
It's well documented that Christ originated as the son of a fisherman, but few people know that he also had a magical power and connection with the stars and planets. This is where the Christmas tree comes in. In fact, it was believed that he would return as one of the stars in the sky for each year that he went fishing, although this was only a legend until the late nineteenth century.
Christmas trees today are traditionally made out of lights and tinsel, although some are constructed out of wreaths, leaves, flowers and baubles. As the name suggests, the tradition of decorating a Christmas tree has a lot of pagan roots, including ancient Rome, where it was believed that the Pagan god of light, Saturn, was also known as the father of Christmas.
The pagan celebration of Saturnalia became one of the main traditions associated with Christmas and was considered to be a great time for the entire family to come together and exchange gifts and food. Saturnalia was officially banned in many countries during the twentieth century, but its pagan roots have continued to this day.
As with most popular holiday decorations, a Christmas tree should not be confused with any kind of a Christmas wreath. While the two can overlap somewhat, both are essentially a single decoration that is hung up or laid down above a roof to represent the idea of the star-studded night sky at the time of the year.
The wreath is traditionally made of flowers and wreaths are traditionally made out of artificial or real wreaths, although there are many that make their wreaths out of natural materials such as mistletoes, or branches. and leaves. The only real difference between the two, however, is that a Christmas wreath is generally decorated with twigs and ribbons and the tree is decorated with actual lights.
Although the traditional Christmas tree was traditionally made out of lights, other decorations have also become popular over the years, such as tinsel. or garlands and bells. A lot of people use Christmas trees and wreaths as alternative decorations, which can then be decorated with other decorations. Many people also use a number of different types of lights to decorate their trees and hang them on their walls as well.
For people who are new to the tradition of Christmas, the decorations themselves can be intimidating. However, if you are familiar with the history of Christmas, the process is not all that intimidating at all. As mentioned earlier, the tradition of decorating a Christmas tree is largely pagan, but many people choose to incorporate Pagan beliefs into the tradition.
People believe in all kinds of things such as spirits, angels, stars and the twelve signs of the zodiac. Therefore, you can decorate your tree in any way that you feel comfortable with as long as it does not take over the tradition of the holiday.
