What is a Modem Stand?
Modem stands for Modulator/Demodulator. A modem converts analog signals produced by the computer to digital ones that are then transmitted via a telephone line to the user's PC. It is the conversion process that is done by the modem.
The modem is then attached to the computer to form the link between the data being transmitted by the user's computer and the data being transferred from the computer's main memory to the receiver's PC. This complete circuit can only be completed through the use of a computer, its keyboard, a monitor and a serial cable.
To use a modem, the computer's keyboard is plugged into a serial port on the PC. Then the modem stands for Modem/DEMODulator is used to turn the input analog signal from the keyboard into a digital signal. This signal is then sent through the cables to the computer. The computer then processes the digital signal into an analog signal that is passed through the cables to the computer's main memory. In this manner, the computer receives analog signals and sends them out on the computer's serial port.
Modems are usually found inside computers where they are connected to a serial port. In most cases, they are attached on the outside to a serial port as well. This way, the data received by the modem is converted to a standard serial port that the users can communicate with. For this reason, the use of Modem stands or modems is not limited to communication through the telephone line.
Modems can also be used for sending digital signals over a wireless connection. This type of modem is known as Wireless LAN modem. The signals that are sent out are transmitted in pulses that cannot be detected by traditional modem technology that is typically installed inside the computer.
Modems can also work on the network of other computers in the same room or even the world. The modems usually act as a bridge between the local computer network and the worldwide networks. They help in creating a virtual network where data can be transmitted simultaneously to multiple computers in the same room or even the whole world. This is called Wide Area Network (WAN) or Wide Area Telecommunication Network (WATN).
Modems are very essential devices and help us in the day-to-day communication processes. These modems help in connecting our personal computers to other network, allowing them to function like the network. where we need them.
What is The Full Form Of Modem
A modem – a portmanteau of "modulator-demodulator" – is a hardware device that converts data from a digital format, intended for communication directly between devices with specialized wiring, into one suitable for a transmission medium such as telephone lines or radio.
